Due to unseasonably warm conditions across Western Canada and the US our usual junior freeski event venues have challenging conditions to support the event taking place. We are waiting for conditions to change and are hopeful with snow in the forecast for this upcoming weekend. Our head judge is coming tomorrow and will be looking at our usual venues and other alternate venues. Our goal is to host the event, however competitor safety remains our top priority. Once the weather system comes through this weekend we can make a final determination about the venues and event. Final decision will be made by Monday evening at thelatest. Stayed tuned and pray for snow!
The Squaw Valley IFSA National is a GO! The recent storm dropped just over 2 feet of snow at higher elevations. The net gain was 18" of great snow which blew into all the right places for the competition next week.
We have two high-elevation venues in prime form at this point: the Slot and Granite Chief Peak. These upper mountain slopes are skiing really well, and the new snow, on top of a solid base, has opened many features and lines in each of these venues. Please see attached photos taken earlier this week.
Taos Ski Valley is excited to present critically acclaimed singer/songwriter and professional surfer, Donavon Frankenreiter as the opening act for Taos Freeride. California-born Frankenreiter has toured the world performing and making music, not to mention surfing and deriving inspiration. Taos Ski Valley is excited to host Donavon at the Martini Tree Bar following the post party on day one of the 2015 Salomon Extreme Freeride Championships. The show starts at 7pm on February 26 and will be a free event.
Thank you for your interest in the Taos 4* Freeride World Qualifying event. We're excited to be hosting the oldest 4* FWQ competition in the Americas again this year and, as you might expect given the illustrious history of the event, the demand to participate in this year's competition will once again exceed the number of competitors that we are able to host.
We do have a very limited number of Wild Card spots open for athletes who for whatever reasons do not currently have enough FWQ points to ensure their spot in this event via the normal registration process through the FWQ. If you are interested in applying for a Wild Card allocation, we will need the following.
We are excited to host an IFSA Sanctioned Junior Regional Freeride Competition Presented by GoPro. The regional competitions are feeders into the national competitions and we expect to sell the event out. This competition is open to skiers and snowboarders between the ages of 10 and 18 and has a strong focus on line choice, fluidity, control, technique, style and energy. The event will be hosted on Aspen Highlands. Click here to see the venue map. Some areas of the venue will be closed to certain age groups.
The IFSA is pleased to announce registration details for three great Rocky Regional events. Hosted by JETA, registration for Taos, Vail, and Sunlight will start this week on Athletepath. Additionally, details are now available for the waitlist registration for the sold out Crested Butte Regional.
