NATIONAL EVENT SCHEDULE

To be announced the first week in September. Regional events are to be announced no later than middle of November.

ATHLETES WHO ARE THE AGE OF 18

Must be enrolled in high school. 18 year old athletes not enrolled in high school may participate in the IFSA Adult Event Series

PERCENTAGE BREAKDOWN

60% of the athletes will be pre-qualified into the national series based off of their 2012 IFSA rankings, 35% of the remaining spots will be allocated to ski team quotas and 5% will be open.

PRE-QUALIFIED STATUS

Based off 2012 IFSA Junior Event Series points. Age 15-18 women’s cut will be behind the 15 position; 28% of the field. 12-14 women’s cut will be behind the 10 position; 14% of the field. 15-18 men’s cut will be behind the 25 position; 19% of the field. 12-14 men’s cut will be behind the 25 position; 16% of the field. This allows 75 athletes pre-qualification status for 2013 National Events based off of 2012 overall IFSA points.1

SKI TEAM QUOTA SPOTS

Not to exceed six per program. Quotas will be based off of program size. Every 7 athletes participating in a program will warrant one quota spot into the National series. Athletes must be over the age of 12 and full time athletes, training more than 9 full days per year with your team to be considered. Submission of quotas will take place at the end of November to the IFSA. Based off of availability, quotas per event may fluctuate higher or lower. The IFSA and event producers will establish a quota percentage. See “Quota Percentage” section for more information.

EVENT REGISTRATION

National events must abide by registration protocol. Registration is to take place the second week in December. All registration start times will be after 6:00 PM MST; (east coast events can start registration at 6:00 PM EST). Systems will allow pre-qualified athletes to register first during a 48 hour period. Quota registration will then take place for a 24 hour period. Afterwards any remaining spots will be available to open athletes through an open first come first serve system.

QUOTA PERCENTAGE

After pre-qualified athletes have registered in their 48 hour allotted time, an event participation total will be calculated. Based off of available spots a percentage will be calculated. This percentage will be multiplied by your quota number. See example below:

  • You have 5 as your quota number that you submitted to the IFSA and 70% is the quota percentage.
  • 5 x .7 = 3.5
  • 3.5 is your quota allotment for that specific event. Numbers will always be round down, so 3 will be your allotment.

OPEN REGISTRATION

The remaining percentage will be available to non-program athletes to register in a traditional open format.

NATIONAL EVENT LOCATIONS

To accommodate for the amount of demand, 2 national events may be held within a region. The second event must apply through the IFSA and meet the criteria in order to be applicable. The Alberta/BC Region is exempt from this rule and allowed to have up to 4 national events.

REGIONAL SYSTEM

Athletes will be allowed to compete in regional events outside of their sanctioned region, however those events participated in will not count towards their own regions overall tour points. Athletes two best finishes will count towards the overall IFSA Junior Event Series ranking on the national level. Point values will be lowered from the 2012 season.3  Each region must track their own points based of their regional event series. The IFSA will track the best two finishes of each athlete, but will not track your entire points system for that region.

NATIONAL SYSTEM

Athletes that are pre-qualified, part of a team quota or open athletes may participate in National Series events.  Similar to 2012, points will mimic the same denominations.  Athletes North American Championships result at Revelstoke, 3 best National Series finishes and 2 best Regional Series will count towards the overall 2013 IFSA Junior Event Series.  Please note the North American Championship event at Revelstoke will count as its own point value towards the overall tour winner.

REGIONAL INSURANCE

The IFSA will have regional insurance for next season that will allow for regional event development.

NORTH AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIPS

Quotas to be based off of overall regional participation and national events. Regional event quotas will be calculated by IFSA memberships tracked in your region. Based off of each regions overall regional ranking, a percentage will be invited to the North American Championship event. This percentage is TBD. Qualifying national level athletes will be based of the 2013 National Series taking into account your three best national finishes based off of the 2013 competition season. National level athletes may also qualify in based off of regional points if they don’t qualify through their national points. The North American Championship event will count as a National Series event and can count as the fourth finish towards the overall 2013 IFSA Junior Event Series. There will be no team quotas for the North American Championship event. The North American Championship event will be 4-5 days long and will be the last event of the season.
