Dear IFSA Freeride Family,

As our Freeride community rapidly expands, we’d like to take a moment to recognize the amazing mountains, coaches, event organizers, and volunteers that have supported and helped us to sustain the growth of this grassroots sport. In 2010, the IFSA sanctioned just 4 junior Freeride events with 250 Freeride athletes. In the 2020 season, we expect to sanction over 90 events and cheer for over 3,500 junior and FWQ competitors!

The growth of our sport has been nothing short of amazing. As we continue to foster the IFSA Junior series and better support our FWQ Adult events, we strive to create a a pathway to Freeride world domination in partnership with the Freeride World Tour.

Supported by our volunteer board of directors, the IFSA Junior and FWQ Adult series is run by just two part-time employees, Lexi and Brian. We’ve lately been focusing on expanding and mandating coach certification and membership to make our events safer and ensure continued liability insurance coverage. We’ve massively upgraded our scorekeeping system and dedicated a lot of resources to producing media in 2019. We are currently working hard to establish better consistency between FWQ events by elevating the production value of our 4* events, adding more FWQ 3* stops, and bringing new host mountains on board.

Our Board of Directors volunteered countless hours this summer at our annual summit in Winter Park to evaluate our growth, make a few rule changes, and implement a new rule to mandate back protectors during all competition runs. As we grow and evolve, we are committed to maintaining a safe and welcoming environment that fosters a love of winter sports, community, and camaraderie.

To help our small organization this winter, we ask that you attempt to answer any questions you have and avoid sending us an email if possible by consulting our trusty 2020 Handbooks, checking with coaches, or visitng the appropraite event webpage under the EVENTS tab here on our website. If you have event-specific questions, please contact the event organizer listed on the official IFSA event webpages. During the winter months, we can get as many as 150 emails a day, it helps our part-time staff of 2 if you can avoid sending extra emails so we can update scores, conduct registration, support event organizers, and manage our event coverage. Of course, we are always happy to help, but please avoid sending us an extra email if your question can be answered by the handbook, reading your email, asking a coach, or an event organizer.

Below we have outlined 6 additional ways to contribute or help the IFSA in our mission to support athletes. We ask that you take some time to consider a contribution in one of these areas. We are grateful for your endless support and passion!
